The race is open to horses aged three years and older, and it covers a distance of 2,400 meters (about 1.5 miles). The race is run on turf and has a purse of several million euros, making it one of the richest horse races in Europe.

The Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe was first run in 1920, and it has been held annually ever since, except for a brief hiatus during World War II. The race was initially known as the Grand Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, and it was created to showcase the best horses from France and other countries. The race was renamed the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in 2008, after the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club became the race's principal sponsor.

The race has a long and illustrious history, and it has been won by many legendary horses. Some of the most famous winners include Sea-Bird, who won the race in 1965 by a record-breaking margin of six lengths; Dancing Brave, who won in 1986 with one of the most impressive finishes in racing history; and Enable, who won the race in 2017 and 2018, becoming only the eighth horse to win the race twice.

The race attracts a large and diverse audience, including royalty, celebrities, and horse racing enthusiasts from around the world. The atmosphere at the Longchamp Racecourse on the day of the race is electric, with tens of thousands of people cheering on their favorite horses. The race is also broadcast on television around the world, reaching millions of viewers.

The Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe is not just a showcase for the best horses in the world, but also for the best jockeys and trainers. Some of the most renowned jockeys and trainers have competed in the race, including Lester Piggott, who won the race seven times; Frankie Dettori, who won the race five times; and Aidan O'Brien, who has trained six winners.

The race is known for its competitive and unpredictable nature, with the winner often decided by a photo finish. The horses that compete in the race are carefully selected based on their previous performances, and the field is usually limited to around 20 horses. The race is a test of speed, endurance, and strategy, and the winner is often a horse that can stay the distance and produce a strong finish.

In conclusion, the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe is a historic and prestigious horse race that attracts the best horses, jockeys, and trainers from around the world. The race is a testament to the beauty and excitement of horse racing, and it continues to captivate audiences around the globe.

About Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe

The Qatar Prix de ‘Arc de Triomphe is considered to be the world’s best horse race. It features group 1 statuses horses, which are the highest category in horse racing. Winners of the prestigious competition are regarded as champions and awarded rich prize money.

Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe History

In 1806, the Arc de Triomphe was commissioned by Napoleon. The origins of its name came from Napoleon’s desire to honor his Grande Armee (“Grand Army”), which was considered to be the most invincible army Europe has ever seen. After the Austerlitz victory in 1805, Napolean said to his soldiers: “You will return home through the arch of triumph.”

Thoroughbred races were famous in France and restricted to horses that were born and raised in the country up until 1863. By the late 1800s, the Prix du Counseil Municipal was formed and introduced an international race for the world’s leading horses in different age groups. This event was called the Grand Prix de Paris.

The coming of World War I led to the renaming of the race after the Arc de Triomphe. In 1920, the Prix de ‘Arc de Triomphe was inaugurated on October 3, 1920.
