"It seemed to me that there was nothing more beautiful in the world than being able to write a work for the theatre. Enchant the audience. Move. To cheer," says Giacomo Puccini, overwhelmed by Verdi's "Aida", for whom he made a pilgrimage to Pisa, twenty kilometres away, on foot in 1876, because he could not hear modern operas in his birthplace of Lucca. This fascinatingly multi-layered man, who loved hunting and cars, was different from his contemporaries. Also dramaturgical. He said goodbye to the classic heroic materials of previous opera works. His protagonists were people next door, "the great pain in little souls" (Puccini).
Like hardly a second, Startenor Jonas Kaufmann succeeds in bringing the moving feelings of ordinary people to the stages of the world and pulling the opera audience and music criticism into storms of enthusiasm in the spirit of Puccini. In 2024, the 100th anniversary of Puccini's death is the 100th anniversary. Mal. With his program "Viva Puccini!" Jonas Kaufmann is dedicated to the work of this extraordinary composer. A very personal tribute with the most beautiful arias and scenes from his world-famous operas such as "La Bohème", "Tosca" and "Madame Butterfly" - interpreted by the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie under the direction of Jochen Rieder, soprano Maria Agresta and "the greatest tenor of these days" (The Daily Telegraph).
