The Barbican's 2026/27 classical season marks the 200th anniversary of Beethoven's death with two landmark orchestral residencies — the Boston Symphony Orchestra under Andris Nelsons and the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig with Lang Lang, each presenting a complete Beethoven symphony cycle across three-night visits. The season also spotlights Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Caroline Shaw in a dedicated Composer in Focus series, alongside a celebration of Steve Reich's 90th birthday curated by percussionist Colin Currie, featuring a new co-commissioned work and Music for 18 Musicians. Resident orchestra the London Symphony Orchestra anchors the season under Chief Conductor Sir Antonio Pappano, opening in October with Mahler's "Resurrection" Symphony and continuing across the year with guest conductors including Sir Simon Rattle, Susanna Mälkki and Gianandrea Noseda.
