The 2026/27 Bundesliga season kicks off on Friday 28 August, a week later than usual due to the 2026 World Cup, with defending champions Bayern Munich hosting VfB Stuttgart at the Allianz Arena. Vincent Kompany's side head into the campaign as clear favourites after a dominant title defence — winning the league by 16 points, scoring a Bundesliga-record 122 league goals, and completing a domestic double with the DFB-Pokal.

The league phase runs to 22 May 2027, with Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig viewed as Bayern's closest challengers. The season sees a shake-up at the bottom of the table too, with Schalke 04 returning after a three-year absence and SV Elversberg making their historic Bundesliga debut, alongside SC Paderborn — replacing relegated Wolfsburg, Heidenheim and St. Pauli. The traditional highlight of the calendar, Der Klassiker between Bayern and Dortmund, falls on Matchday 8 (30 October–1 November) in Munich.

With Bayern chasing a third straight title and a deep run in a reshaped Champions League, 2026/27 promises to be another compelling season at the top of German football.
