The Komische Oper Berlin opens its 2026/27 season on 16 September 2026 at Hangar 4 of the former Tempelhof Airport, with the premiere of Reimann's Lear, directed by Barrie Kosky and conducted by Nicholas Carter. The season continues with Andrea Breth's staging of Puccini's Madama Butterfly (premiering 21 November), Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld, and the return of Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin, alongside beloved repertoire including Hansel and Gretel, The Magic Flute, Anatevka, and Sweeney Todd. The season closes with Gershwin's Porgy and Bess, a long-held ambition for director Barrie Kosky, conducted by General Music Director James Gaffigan. Beyond the Schillertheater stage, the company brings its "Out into the city" spirit to venues across Berlin, including two symphony concerts at the Konzerthaus and 35 performances of children's opera for younger audiences.
