Musikfest Berlin runs from 28 August to 23 September 2026, marking the 75th anniversary of the Berliner Festspiele with 36 events comprising around 40 concerts, 160 works, and over 80 composers performed across five major Berlin venues. Organised by the Berliner Festspiele in cooperation with the Berliner Philharmoniker Foundation, the festival opens at the Philharmonie Berlin with Ligeti's opera Le Grand Macabre, and brings together leading international orchestras including the Vienna Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra under Sir Antonio Pappano, the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Kansas City Symphony, Le Concert des Nations, and the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, alongside Berlin's own resident ensembles. Highlights include a centenary tribute to composer Hans Werner Henze, Karlheinz Stockhausen's opera Mittwoch aus Licht returning to the stage, and Cape Town Opera's production of Porgy and Bess. As the international orchestral festival that opens Berlin's concert season each year, demand for the anniversary edition's headline performances runs high — book early to secure your seats.
