Bayreuth Festival
Held annually on Bayreuth's Green Hill since Richard Wagner opened his purpose-built Festival Theatre in 1876, the Bayreuth Festival 2027 marks a shift in pace for one of opera's most revered institutions, presenting two new productions in a single summer for the first time. The season opens with a new staging of Lohengrin, directed by Ilaria Lanzino in her Bayreuth debut and conducted by Tarmo Peltokoski, starring Michael Spyres, Elsa Dreisig, Georg Zeppenfeld, Jordan Shanahan and Judit Kutasi. It's joined by a new production of Parsifal, conducted by Christian Thielemann and directed by Ersan Mondtag, with Michael Volle, Mika Kares and Piotr Beczała leading the cast. The season also brings the return of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, conducted by Simone Young with Volle, Klaus Florian Vogt and Vida Miknevičiūtė, alongside the final festival season of Tobias Kratzer's acclaimed Tannhäuser production, conducted by Thomas Guggeis.
