Wagner's Tannhäuser returns to the Bayreuth Festival in 2027 for what has been announced as its final season, performed on 27 July and 1, 5, 11, 16 & 21 August 2027. Tobias Kratzer's acclaimed staging, with sets and costumes by Rainer Sellmaier, is conducted by Thomas Guggeis in his Bayreuth debut. The cast features Klaus Florian Vogt in the title role, Vida Miknevičiūtė as Elisabeth, and Tareq Nazmi as Landgrave Hermann — staged, as ever, in the legendary Bayreuth Festspielhaus on the Green Hill. Tickets to Bayreuth are among the most difficult in the world of opera to obtain, with public waiting lists historically running to several years.
